An annual tradition, the Apple Festival celebrates the more than 100-year history of apples grown in the Sacramento Mountains. Nichols Ranch and Orchards invites you to enjoy breathtaking views of the Tularosa Basin including White Sands National Monument, mountain fresh air, and a fun-filled experience that your family will want to repeat every year.
***** Special Considerations and IMPORTANT information:
Always check-in at the barn first to get picking locations and information.
The festival is located in the mountains at an elevation of 6800 feet. The event is spread out over a large area and requires a lot of walking. Make sure you are prepared for a warm day outdoors and plenty of walking. The festival takes place on a working farm in a rural setting - there are uneven and unpaved walking surfaces, bugs, rocks, dust, and unpredictable weather.
- Dress in layers, use sunscreen; Hydrate...it can get hot!; bring an umbrella and a hat;
- Wear good walking shoes; we recommend wearing close-toed shoes, as the terrain is hilly, rocky, and picking sometimes requires the use of a ladder.
- when using our ladders to pick apples, we ask that you always have someone holding the ladder and providing stability for safety. We are not responsible for injuries incurred from unsafe ladder use.
- Do not climb or shake the trees. This will damage fruit and can break tree limbs.
- If two or three fruits are clustered together, use two hands and gently pick all the fruit in the cluster.
- Wagons and Strollers with off-road wheels are recommended and are useful for carrying all the items you may purchase such as apples, pies, and cider. Regular wheels do not do well on our terrain;
- We will have chairs and tables available but you are welcome to bring your own chairs;
- Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Well-behaved dogs are allowed on our farm with the requirement that they remain on their leashes and owners pick up after them.
- Please dispose of trash in proper receptacles.
- Please be considerate of all of our customers and observe our non-smoking policy.
- A free shuttle is available to take you from the parking lot to the top of the festival grounds.
- the parking lot is not ideal for super low-profile vehicles.
